Privacy Policy

This policy describes the limited information collected during a visit to Brown County Court Docket, the purposes for which it is used, and the circumstances in which it may be shared. By browsing the site or using a linked search tool, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

When a visitor enters a name or case number into a search tool, the entry is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies any result. Brown County Court Docket does not keep a separate log or database of the terms entered into those tools.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained so that a response can be provided. We do not disclose the message outside our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Like most websites, the servers and service providers used for this site may receive routine technical information when a page is requested. That information can include:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • The page visited and the approximate time spent there
  • The referring site, when one is available
  • Browser version, device type, and operating system
  • The IP address associated with the request

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files a browser may store to help measure site use, such as which pages receive visits or where a session ends. Analytics providers may aggregate that activity. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although some site functions may then operate differently.

What We Do With This Data

Technical and direct-contact information is used to operate and improve the site and its services. It may be used for:

  • Maintaining site availability and performance
  • Routing a submitted search to the applicable partner service
  • Diagnosing errors and addressing security or reliability issues
  • Understanding general traffic patterns and useful content
  • Delivering advertising that may be relevant to a visitor

No Court-Record Data on File

Brown County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a database of court dockets or personal case records. It provides general routing information for Brown County readers. The court record is maintained by Brown County Court Administration for the Brown County District Court, while Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) supplies the Judicial Branch's public-facing search service.

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party dossiers.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate search boxes and other services that may be available through the site. Information entered into one of those services is handled under that provider's privacy policy, retention practices, and sharing rules. We do not direct those practices, so review the provider's terms before submitting a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to official court resources, county offices, legal-aid organizations, MCRO, or third-party services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the receiving website's privacy policy controls the visit and any information supplied there.

Advertising providers may also use their own systems to measure activity across websites and deliver interest-based advertisements. That activity is governed by the provider's practices, not this policy.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited information can be available to the service providers needed to operate the site, including:

  • Search partners that receive a query submitted through their tool
  • Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
  • Advertising networks that place advertisements on the site
  • Government or law-enforcement authorities when a valid legal demand requires disclosure

How We Protect Your Data

We use reasonable security measures intended to protect the information we handle. No internet-based system can guarantee complete security, however, and we cannot promise that an unauthorized access event will never occur.

Users Under 18

This site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from people under 18. If you believe that a minor has provided personal information to us, contact us so the information can be addressed promptly.

Your Data Rights

You may ask about direct personal information we hold, request correction of inaccurate information, ask that information be deleted, or request to opt out of certain processing. We will consider requests in light of applicable law and our operational obligations.

Minnesota Statutes section 13.03 is the general government-data access law for public data held by government entities. It is not a substitute for the Judicial Branch rules that govern Brown County court case access. Court-record access is principally controlled by Minnesota Rules of Public Access, Rule 8, which distinguishes remote access from access where records are kept and permits remote access to specified registers, calendars, indexes, judgment dockets, and court-prepared documents subject to limits. Rule 4 identifies categories that are not publicly accessible, while Minnesota General Rule of Practice 11 requires restricted identifiers to be omitted from public filings or placed on the confidential form and kept from remote public access.

Updates to This Policy

We may revise this policy when practices or services change. A revised version will appear on this page with an updated effective date, so visitors who want current information should review the policy periodically.
